Citizen gets collective agreement, editor

Employees at the Prince George Citizen have a new contract and a new editor.

The Citizen, for the first time since 2012, it has reached a new collective agreement with its unionized staff, members of Unifor Local 2000. This was one of the top priorities identified by Cameron and Terresa Stolz when they bought the paper in February 2024. The four-year contract recognizes that the news industry is not the profit centre it once was. Both sides made compromises during the five months of negotiations to reach a deal. The contract was ratified by staff on Sunday, July 21.

The Citizen has also hired Kennedy Gordon as its new managing editor. The newspaper has been without an editor since Neil Godbout resigned earlier this year. Gordon brings more than 30 years of experience at daily newspapers and news websites in Ontario.
