Special to the News
Cancer has touched the lives of so many people. For me, it was when my late father, Markus was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2020.
I am hosting the second annual 144kms for Markus, a fundraiser in support of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), so that together we can change the future of cancer forever. Last year, we raised over $6,000 and this year we want to increase awareness, increase my personal fundraising efforts and ultimately raise much more money for bladder cancer than last year.
The event will be begin on August 10, at the Lester Center of the Arts in Prince Rupert and will wrap up on August 16 at the George Little Park in Terrace. I’ll have an official send off, at the Lester Center of the Arts on August 10, between about 8-9 a.m. (when I’ll get started with kilometre 1). I’ll also have an official arrival at the George Little Park in Terrace on August 16 at about 3-4 p.m. (legs depending). I would love to have as many people as I can at both the send off and arrival! I’d be honoured to take photos, give interviews and will be giving a speech at both events about why I’m so passionate about making a difference, and what it means to me to accomplish this feat for the first time without my father.
One hundred per cent of all money raised will go towards CCS’s investment into cancer prevention programs, life-saving research and a compassionate support network, helping people with cancer to live longer, fuller lives.
