Heritage River Trail to close for rehabilitation work

The Heritage River Trail between the Replica Bridge in Cottonwood Island Park and the Cameron Street Bridge will be closed starting next week for rehabilitation work.

The trail closure will begin on May 21 and continue until June 14.

The rehabilitation work will commence at the Replica Bridge (located near the parking lot by the Railway Museum) and involve removing sections of asphalt from the trail and replacing them with gravel.

The asphalt has become uneven and cracked in places along the trail due to age and damage from tree roots. This new gravel path will create a smoother trail and increase accessibility for users.

The project is budgeted at $150,000 and will be funded through the Trail Rehabilitation Capital Projects budget.

The city asks residents to exercise caution in and around the work zone and to pay attention to signage. The red line in the image provided shows the trail area being worked on.
