Northern Hospitality Festival – A celebration of local arts and music

Get ready to immerse yourself in a weekend of local arts, music, and culinary delights at the Northern Hospitality Festival, taking place at the Knox Performance Centre on May 24-25.

This exciting festival is the culmination of Danny Bell’s year-long artist residency with the Community Arts Council of Prince George and our annual BC Gourmet Arts Festival. Musical guests include Grande Maul, Britt AM, Saltwater Hank, Kym Gouchie, Big Fancy, Reckless Burning and Danny Bell and His Disappointments.

During Danny Bell’s Residency, the musician worked on developing new sounds on the accordion and writing new material while secluded in a cabin on Nukko Lake.  These new songs will take centre stage during the headlining act of the festival on Saturday night, promising an unforgettable experience for attendees.

Adding to the cultural extravaganza, the festival will feature vendors from the BC Gourmet Arts Festival, offering a tantalizing array of gourmet delights for food enthusiasts to indulge in. Additionally, on Saturday, May 25th, from 11 am to 2 pm, the Prince George Potters Guild will host the 48th Annual Great Northern Chili Cook-Off.

“This event is a unique blend of culinary and performing arts, bringing together local talent and community spirit,” said Executive Director, Eli Klasner. “The Great Northern Chili Cook-Off is not just about the delicious chili; it’s about celebrating our local potters who handcraft the beautiful chili bowls that are eagerly collected by our supporters.”

Twelve teams will compete to claim the title of the best chili, with local politicians, celebrities, and arts enthusiasts showcasing their finest recipes. Attendees purchase handcrafted chili bowls to take home as souvenirs while enjoying a variety of chili offerings and casting their vote for their favorite team. Each bowl is $25.

“I’ve had such a great experience during this residency, having the opportunity to explore new techniques and being given dedicated space and time to write new material.” said Bell.  “I’m so excited to show the community what I’ve been working on during this residency.  We’re playing a lot of new songs at Northern Hospitality Festival, and we get to do it alongside a great lineup of talented friends.  And the Chili Cook-Off is the icing on the cake.”
