Friends of the Prince George Public Library Society ready to host Spring Book Sale at downtown branch

It’s a sure sign of spring in Prince George when the robins are out and the Spring Book Sale is happening.

Hosted by the Friends of the Prince George Public Library Society (the Friends) and the Prince George Public Library (PGPL), this weekend’s sale at the Bob Harkins Branch, downtown, promises to carry on the exciting tradition of this much
anticipated fundraising event, with hundreds of enthusiasts expected to attend.

If you’re a member of the Friends, you can enjoy early access to the book sale on Friday, April 12 from 3-5:30 p.m. Don’t worry if you’re not yet a member, as you can purchase your membership at the door for $5 (cash only). The public sale will take place the following day, Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. All items are available by cash donation, with the
proceeds going towards supporting special items, programs, and initiatives at PGPL.

Lila Reynolds, Vice-President of the Friends of the Prince George Public Library Society, is excited about the upcoming event and encourages attendees to bring their reusable bags, cash, and love of books and bargains. She also notes that the event is crucial for fundraising, with the Fall Book Sale having been very successful and well-attended.

The Friends are local volunteers who are dedicated to supporting the programs and services of PGPL. They firmly believe that developing libraries is a crucial part of developing communities, and that’s why they promote the library and raise necessary funds for special library projects.

Since their incorporation in 1990, the Friends have raised over $440,000 with fundraising initiatives like Book Sales, memberships and merchandise sales (mugs and bookbags), and 50/50 draws.

Reynolds emphasizes the strong bond between the Friends of the Prince George Public Library Society and PGPL, which has been built on trust and respect. The Friends have supported, promoted, and advocated for PGPL for over 30 years, and they plan to continue doing so for many years to come.
