Colour Walk and High Tea planned for Hospice Month in May

The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society (PGHPCS) has announced two special events in honour of Hospice Month – MAY, dedicated to supporting its newest program, Home Hospice.

This year Hospice will again be hosting High Tea and kicking off the sixth annual Colour Walk for the month of May. Both these exciting events are in support of Home Hospice. Home Hospice provides the same compassionate care they provide at Hospice House, to those that choose to stay in their homes.

PGHPCS provides expert nursing care, support from care aides, and volunteers, available day or night. However, Home Hospice is unfunded and relies on community support to continue its vital services. There is no government funding to support this program so PGHPCS must relies on the community’s support to help raise the funds to allow people the opportunity to choose where they want to die.

High Tea On May 4 – PGHPCS invites the community to celebrate the important women in their lives with a High Class High Tea event. Held at a new venue capable of accommodating more attendees, this year’s High Tea promises more socializing, tea, and fun-filled games. Canadian showman, Paul Filek, will entertain the guests. Attendees are encouraged to wear fancy hats, and for those without, the CFUW will be on hand to assist in crafting one at their market booth.

Additionally, a few local vendors will be set up with henna designs, permanent jewellery and more. Tickets are available on the PGHPCS website, www.pghpcs.ca.

Colour Walk – May 1 PGHPCS launches its sixth annual Colour Walk, challenging the community to “Walk 100K in the month of May.” Participants will engage in activities like “I Spy” as they trek through the city’s parks and trails, all while raising funds to support Home Hospice. Walkers can post to the PG Colour Walk Facebook Group and share stories of why they are walking and who they are walking for. Each week a new colour and park or trail is highlighted for walkers to explore.

The culminating celebration, “Celebrate Life with Colour,” will take place on May 26, at the CN Centre parking lot. Sponsors will shower walkers with coloured powder as they complete their journey, creating a vibrant celebration of life.

“We are excited to mark Hospice Month with these two engaging events,” said Donna Flood Executive Director at PGHPCS. “Home Hospice is a game-changing program that brings comfort and dignity to those in their final days. By participating in our events, the community can directly contribute to supporting this invaluable service.”
