Spruce Kings announce commitment of Cooper Williams

The Prince George Spruce Kings have announced the commitment of Cooper Williams (’07) for the 2024/2025 BCHL season.

Williams, from Pinckney, Michigan, has spent the season with the Compuware U16 AAA program.

“I am very excited for this opportunity,” said Williams. “Talking with Alex (Evin) and the entire organization, I feel the Spruce Kings is a place I can grow as a player and a person.”

In 56 games with Compuware, the 16-year-old winger has been outstanding, recording 38 goals and 60 points.

“Cooper is a very hard-working skilled forward with great offensive instincts,” said General Manager of the Spruce Kings, Mike Hawes. “Our fans will appreciate the way this young man plays the game. I’m extremely excited that we are adding Cooper and his family to our program.”

Williams stands at 5’9″ and weighs 154 lbs, saying he uses his frame to his advantage.

“I am a smaller player, but I love to go into the dirty areas along the boards and get into the corners,” said Williams. “I also like to pop a few goals into the net.”

Cooper will come to Prince George already committed to play NCAA Division1 hockey at Lake Superior State University, following in his brother Tyler William’s (’00) footsteps, who spent two years with the Nanaimo Clippers and currently is in his senior season with the Lakers.

“Cooper is a very talented, hard-working player who plays with an edge,” said Spruce Kings head coach, Alex Evin. “He and his family are very familiar with the BCHL/NCAA pathway, and we are very excited to add this young prospect to our team and help him with his development.”
