The architect of my own woes

It was not a fun weekend for me, and I think it was my fault.

Late Friday afternoon, I decided to drop by Mom’s place and stare at the jigsaw puzzle she’s working on. I checked the Environment Canada site and found out it was plus-seven, so I figured just wearing a regular coat would be good, since I wouldn’t be outside very long.

As I left my apartment and headed to the parking lot, I discovered the first problem with my clothing choice: There was a pretty good wind blowing, and even though it was from the south, it still cooled things down a bit.

Had a nice visit with Mom (and even put a couple of pieces in the puzzle. Then it came time to leave. The temperature had dropped a couple of degrees and the wind was still blowing.

By the time I got home about five minutes later, I was not feeling too good.

I went to bed at a reasonable hour and got to sleep fairly quickly.

Then I woke up a couple of hours later and could not get back to sleep because my mind refused to focus on anything. Usually, if I’m lying awake in bed, it just takes about five or 10 seconds of thinking about a particular subject and I go back to sleep.

Not Friday night/Saturday morning. I lay there for about five hours then pried myself out of bed and realized I had a dripping nose, a bit of a cough, and a sore throat.

So, just grab everything I have that I can bundle myself up in, and do it,

The good news was I had some cough medicine and enough tissues to get me through.

By Saturday evening, all three of my symptoms were nicely abated, so I did the same thing again.

Lesson learned: It is always better to put on more clothes to start with at this time of the year.
