The Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games are underway and Blizzard skaters Eli Bernard, Emily Walsh, and Megan Vansickle are all competing on home ice, with Blizzard coach Taryn Vansickle as the head coach for Zone 8.
Speed skating is taking place at Kin 1 on Friday and Saturday. Eli is competing in the U14 Male category and Emily is competing in the U14 Female category. Megan is competing in the U16 Female category. The U16 category is a special exception this year since speed skaters were unable to compete at the 2023 BC Winter Games in Vernon (which were canceled in 2022 because of COVID-19) due to a change in age categories from Speed Skating Canada.
There are nine skaters representing Cariboo-North East (Zone 8) and over 70 skaters from across the province. There are 70 volunteers helping make this event a success.
Racing is set to start at 10:30 on Friday and Saturday.
