Man injured in shooting at homeless encampment

Prince George police are investing a shooting at the homeless encampment on Lower Patricia Boulevard.

Just before 11 a.m. on Monday, Prince George RCMP received a report of a man with a gunshot wound on the 500-block of Fourth Avenue. Police officers immediately attend the area and determined the shooting had taken place inside the homeless encampment known locally as “Moccasin Flats.”

“Police are aware that the levels of violence in and around the encampment have increased in recent weeks and we are taking steps to address this issue,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Office for the Prince George RCMP. “We have an increased police presence in the area, including proactive patrols through the encampment, to help ensure the safety of those who live and work nearby.”

The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police are asking that those who were in the area and may have witnessed the incident or who have information that can assist this investigation, to please contact the Prince George RCMP non-emergency line to speak with an investigator.
