Man shot at homeless encampment downtown

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on January 5, Prince George RCMP received a report of a gunshot on the 500-block of Ottawa Street, in the homeless encampment there.

“A man was located at that location suffering from a serious gunshot wound. Multiple police units, including Frontline police officers, Police Dog Services, and the Investigative Support Team, immediately flooded the area to search for possible suspects. Emergency Health Services transported the victim to the hospital for treatment of his injuries,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The Serious Crimes Unit has since taken conduct of this investigation and investigators, including the Forensic Identification Section, will be at the location for a large portion of the day. Police are asking that the general public stay out of the area in order to give investigators space to complete their work.

Police officers are looking to speak with anyone who was in the area between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. who may have seen anything suspicious. Please call the Prince George RCMP non-emergency line at 250-561-3300 and quote file number 2024-445 if you have any information.

This investigation is in the beginning stages; more details may be released as they become available.
