The first half of the opening period was very even, with the teams exchanging chances.
The Cougars opened the scoring 7:21 into the period after a wrap around by Heidt just made it over the goal line.
Then Prince George scored three times in a span of 4:26 at the tail end of the first, to extend their lead from 1-0 to 4-0. First, Heidt got his second of the night on a one-timer off the rush, then Buczkowski scored off a point shot, before Funk forced his way through a couple defenders and went top corner for his 36th goal of the season.
The Cougars would then extend their lead to 5-0 just 27 seconds into the second period off the stick of Dezainde.
The Giants got on the board just 36 seconds later thanks to a Roberts snap shot from the slot to make it 5-1.
The Cougars would extend their lead just a few minutes later after Shtrom scored from the right circle off a pass from Dezainde to make it 6-1.
At the 13:45 mark of the second, the Giants would once again get one back after Julian Cull fed a perfect pass from Edwards in the high slot, who beat goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen on the blocker side to make it 6-2.
The Cougars would add another goal before the second period was done off the stick of captain Thornton, moving him into sole possession of first place in franchise history in points by a defencemen (158). Prince George would add two more goals in the third, one from Parascak and one from Bawa, to make it a 9-2 final.
