Holiday travel trips from YXS

Gordon Duke president and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority.

As the holiday season quickly approaches, the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) is expecting to see an increase in traffic at the Prince George Airport (YXS) this coming weekend.

“(Friday) is the last day of school for local students before the winter break so we typically start to see families travelling to visit friends and relatives or to find warmer climates,” said PGAA President and CEO, Gordon Duke. “Saturday also marks the first flight of the season to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, so we expect the terminal will be busier than normal.”

To eliminate some stress this holiday season, the PGAA is asking passengers to plan ahead by following these travel tips:

  • Arrive at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure and check the status of your flight online before driving to YXS.
  • Check the weather conditions in PG and at connecting airports and destinations, as poor conditions can significantly impact flight schedules. Check your airline’s website for the most up to date flight information.
  • Place identification in both the inside and outside of your baggage. Be sure to check your bags to ensure prohibited items are not present. For more information visit the “Pack Smart” section of CATSA’s website (
  • If you’re travelling with gifts, leave them unwrapped as Screening Officers may have to inspect them.
  • To minimize the risk of damage or loss, don’t pack fragile or valuable items in checked baggage. Take them with you in carry-on baggage or ship them to your destination instead.
  • Check your airline’s website for baggage size, weight restrictions and costs associated with checking your bags
  • If you are given the option, check in online; it will save you time. Most airlines offer this service 24 hours before the departure time.

Last December over 30,618 passengers flew in and out of the Prince George Airport.
