The Prince George Spruce Kings struggled again Friday night.
Friday was the first of three home games for the Spruce Kings.
The first opponent was the Cranbrook Bucks.
The first period was rather tame. The best chance of the period went the way of the Bucks. Cranbrook was left alone in the slot, and after a great move, Spruce Kings starting goalie Ryan Sanborn (’05) made an incredible pad save. 0-0, the score after 20 minutes of play.
The Bucks struck first in the second period. Four-on-four hockey left lots of room on the ice for Jack Silich (’03) to score his eighth goal of the season, using the Spruce Kings’ defender as a screen to beat Sanborn on the blocker side.
Less than two minutes later, the visitors struck again. This time Kaslo Ferner (’06), beat Sanborn. The Kelowna B.C. product would make it 2-0 Bucks.
The only Spruce King goal of the game came just before the halfway point of the second period. Skogen Schrott (’05) and the fourth line had a great shift. Schrott would use his strength to power his way to the front of the net and slip the puck past Bucks starting goalie, Braedyn Mcintosh (’03). It would be Schrott’s fourth goal of the season. 2-1, the score after two periods.
The Bucks would score twice in the third period. Jordan Murray (’06) would undress Schrott at the blue line, step in and go bar down scoring a beautiful goal.
The final goal would come from the Bucks captain, Donovan Frias (’04), who scored his sixth goal of the season with the Spruce Kings net empty. 4-1, the final score from Kopar Memorial Arena.
