The Prince George Cougars’ five-game win streak came to a halt as they fell to the Wenatchee Wild by a 6-3 score on Saturday at the CN Centre.
Ondrej Becher (2) and Carlin Dezainde showcased their offensive prowess for the Cougars, while Ty Young made 25 saves on 30 Wenatchee shots.
The game started with the Cougars taking the lead in the opening period. Ondrej Becher displayed finesse on a breakaway, slipping the puck past Brendan Gee at 5:31. Carlin Dezainde extended the lead with a power-play goal at 10:46, making it 2-0. Despite being outshot 11-0 at that point, Wenatchee managed to claw back into the game. Kenta Isogai scored at 17:11, narrowing the deficit to one goal. The Cougars finished the first period ahead 2-1.
The second period saw the Wild equalizing at 2:10 with Steven Arp’s goal. Easton Armstrong followed suit at 8:17, giving Wenatchee a 3-2 lead. Prince George responded with Ondrej Becher’s second goal at 11:29, tying the game at three. In the dying seconds of the period, Easton Armstrong scored at 19:05, re-establishing the Wild’s lead heading into the locker room.
In the final period, Rodzers Bukarts netted his second goal of the season at 4:16, prompting a goaltending change with Josh Ravenbergen replacing Ty Young. Evan Friesen sealed the deal with an empty netter at 19:52, securing the Wild’s 6-3 victory over the Cougars.
