Immerse yourself in a space where emotion, movement and creativity intersect. In Limbinal Mappings, Scotland-based, Prince George artist, Gwynne Bilski’s textile maps become the backdrop for dance performances as well as the site for personal explorations of place.
Her exhibit will be on display at Two Rivers Gallery from October 5 to December 10.
Artfully showcasing her feelings of sentimentality towards particular locales, Bilski draws attention to how moving our bodies connect us to the world. Similarly, she asks us to be mindful of the routes we tread in our daily lives and consider the memories and emotions they evoke.
Bilski grew up in Prince George, where she took great interest in the feeling of nature surrounding us. Limbinal Mappings embodies our interactions with space and asks us to consider our relationship to our surroundings. She maps those interactions on fabric using ink, acrylic, and fibre. Focusing on her memories of moving through place, rather than topographical accuracy, the resulting maps are representations of experiences as much as they are maps.
Performances by Method Dance Society will take place over the course of the exhibition starting on opening night. Upcoming performance dates will be confirmed. A musical composition by Duncan Bowers of (Syntheatrics) accompanies the exhibition. Against this soundscape, viewers are encouraged to navigate the exhibition mindful of their movement through it. Limbinal Mappings will be at Two Rivers Gallery from October 5 to December 10.
