Prince George Cougars goaltender Ty Young has signed a three-year entry level contract with the Vancouver Canucks. Young was selected by Vancouver in the fifth round, 144th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft.
“Ty has made some improvements since we drafted him last year and we were pleased to see him play meaningful games in the WHL playoffs,” said Canucks GM Patrick Allvin in a team release. “He has good size and our goalie development team see a lot of potential in his game if he continues to put in the work and follow the plan we have put in place for him moving forward.”
Young, 19, appeared in a career-high 34 games for the Cats last season, posting a 15-13-4-9 record to go along with a 3.89 goals-against average and .889 save percentage. The 6’3”, 184-pound netminder was also between the pipes for eight playoff games, sending Prince George to the Western Conference Semi-finals.
Young has been returned to the Cougars from the Canucks for the 2023-2024 season. He is expected to be in the Cougars lineup this weekend when they visit the Victoria Royals on Friday September 29 and Saturday September 30.
Prince George returns to home ice for a five-game home-stand beginning Tuesday, October 3 against the Kelowna Rockets.
