Evacuation order and alert areas expanded for Great Beaver Lake fire

The Great Beaver Lake wildfire has grown and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the McLeod Lake Indian Band are advising that evacuation orders and alerts have been expanded.

The evacuation order area has expanded by a further 959 square kilometres to the northeast. A new evacuation alert area measuring 729 square kilometres has been added east of the evacuation order area. The existing alert area from September 10 remains in effect. The McLeod Lake Indian Band IR #1 and #5 are not affected by these alerts or orders.

Residents of the evacuation order area may qualify for Evacuation Support Service. For assistance, please contact:

  • Regional District of Fraser-Fort George at 250-960-4400 or 1-800-667-1959
  • McLeod Lake Indian Band at (250) 997-7544

Conditions in the evacuation alert area could unexpectedly change and may require an immediate evacuation of the area to ensure the safety of residents and front-line responders. • Prepare to leave the area on short notice
  • Prepare a 72-hour personal emergency kit for you and your family (including medications)
  • Gather important papers and move valuables to alternate locations
  • Make arrangements for pets to be moved to a safe location
  • Identify a safe alternate location for livestock or hobby farm animals if an evacuation order is issued
