Evacuation orders given for Wells Creek and Tekaiziyis Ridge wildfires south of Burns Lake

Because of the potential danger to life and health, Cheslatta Carrier Nation and the Regional District of
Bulkley-Nechako have issued an evacuation order for the Wells Creek wildfire, 55 kilometres south of Burns Lake, for all properties, lands, and dwellings along Ootsa Lake Road including Petkau Road, Marilla Road, St. Marys Pit Road, to the Marilla Main FSR, including IR 1, Parcel 11 (East Ootsa Charlie Reserve).

They have also issued an evacuation order for the Tekaiziyis Ridge wildfire, 32 kilometres southeast of Houston, for all properties, lands, and dwellings located to the north of Colleymount Road and accessed by Parrot Lake Trail, Brewer Road, Koon Road, Antilla Road, or by the Grainger and Macdonald Forest Service Roads

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY

Persons who disregard this evacuation order and remain in the area do so at their own risk. The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako may be unable to assist anyone who remains in the area.

  • If you need transportation assistance from the area, please advise the individual providing this notice or call the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at 250-692-1553.
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Gather your family: take a neighbour or someone who needs help.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on a leash.
  • Do not use more vehicles than you must.
  • If you require assistance for livestock, please call the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at
    250-692-1553.

Evacuees:

  • If Emergency Support Services are required please go to the ESS Reception Centre in Houston at
    the Houston Community Hall at 2302 Butler Road, or call 250-844-1404.
  • Emergency Support Services can provide assistance for food, accommodation (hotel or staying with friends and family), clothing, emotional support, and family reunification.
  • Contact the RDBN Emergency Operations Centre at 250-692-1553.
