UPDATE: Three injured in explosion near Wood Innovation Centre; public urged to avoid the area

Three people were injured in an early morning explosion downtown.

First responders are currently near Fourth Avenue and Dominion Street for the explosion that occurred at approximately 7 a.m. this morning.

“We have been informed that hydro in the area has been shut down and will remain that way for an undetermined amount of time,” Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. “Northern Health had confirmed that three people were transported to hospital this morning, only one of whom had serious injuries. It is still too early into this event to determine any cause.”

Police currently have the area of Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue from George Street to Dominion Street closed to all vehicle or pedestrian traffic.

“This incident is dynamic and information is changing rapidly,” said Cooper. “We are insisting that all members of the public stay out of the immediate area to give first responders room to work safely.”

The exact cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
