Youth need for canoe trip later this summer

The third annual Nechako Watershed Roundtable youth canoe trip is looking for youth aged 13 to 25 to participate in this year’s event. Registration is now open for a free, full day of paddling and activities in Vanderhoof on Saturday, August 12 or Sunday, August 13.

This a fun, experiential learning opportunity for youth to connect and collaborate with each other, community members, Elders and members of local First Nations, as well as researchers for a full day of paddling and activities. It is an opportunity to introduce youth to watershed importance and gather around the common goal of preserving the health of the Nechako River, the Nechako Watershed and the communities within the watershed. The youth will also learn about outdoor recreation and sustainable recreation. The event also serves as a jumping point for education and early career ideas.

This trip is supported by Nak’azdli Whut’en, the Rivershed Society of B.C., the Nechako Environment and Water Stewardship Society, Integris and Koh-Learning in our Watersheds at UNBC. Jordan became involved in the Koh learning program while still a high school student at Nechako Valley Secondary School in Vanderhoof. She spent last year as an undergrad researcher with the program.
