Council approved a resolution for submission to the North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA) and the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) advocating for financial support from the provincial government for medical services provided by municipal fire and rescue service departments.
The ask is that the provincial government develop a funding model to compensate local governments who provide emergency medical services through their fire and rescue services and comes in response to a significant increase in calls to respond to emergency medical incidents.
The report showed that there was a cost jump from $28,000 in 2015 to $69,000 in 2022.
This resolution will now be submitted for consideration at the 2023 UBCM Convention in September 2023.
