Science Alliance Summer Day Camps at The Exploration Place return after a three-year hiatus

Get ready for a summer filled with hands-on, minds-on fun as The Exploration Place brings back the highly anticipated Science Alliance Summer Day Camps! After a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19 and a building-wide renovation, the Museum is thrilled to offer in-person camps once again.

This year holds special significance as we celebrate the 25th summer of Science Alliance, making it one of the city’s longest-running day camp programs. Originating in 1996 as the Youth Exploring Science Camp, this joint venture between UNBC, CNC, and The Exploration Place was established in response to parents’ desire for an educational and inspiring hands-on summer day camp. We wanted to create a program that would captivate children’s interest while providing a friendly and non-intimidating environment to foster scientific and technological literacy.

In 1997, we rebranded as Science Alliance and have been delighting campers ever since. Each year, our university student instructors develop all-new programming based on the exciting fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). These enthusiastic instructors, hailing from diverse science backgrounds and often pursuing education degrees, infuse their lessons with innovative ideas and a passion for inspiring young minds.

Science Alliance campers engage in activities led by these dedicated summer student instructors and experienced staff from all museum departments. Not only do the campers benefit from this immersive experience and all the museum has to offer, but our instructors also gain valuable skills, references, and career development opportunities while remaining in their hometown for the summer and working in an exciting environment for a fair wage.

It’s always rewarding to witness the impact of Science Alliance on our community. Former campers return as parents, extending their support through sponsorships, or even joining us as museum staff. This cycle of inspiration and involvement demonstrates Science Alliance’s lasting effect on individuals and their commitment to arts, culture, and the community.

To make this year’s camps even better, campers will enjoy delicious snacks throughout the day provided by Origins Kitchen. And here’s some exciting news for parents: Origins Lunch is available for purchase, alleviating the need to pack a lunch and providing a convenient option that both kids and parents will appreciate! We are also grateful to have continued our bursary program, which is already fully subscribed, thanks to our generous sponsors, R. Radloff & Associates and Scouten Engineering.

If you’re still searching for a fantastic summer activity for your child aged six to ten, limited spots are still available. To learn more about Science Alliance and register your child, please visit The Exploration Place’s website at https://theexplorationplace.com/science-alliance.
