The Public Alerting System (PAS) used by the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the City of
Prince George was tested at approximately 9 a.m. yesterday.
Regional district residents who have subscribed to this system received the test message by text and email, but the voice call message was distorted. This was an isolated incident, and the regional district is working closely with its service provider to identify and rectify the problem.
There were no issues with any of the messages sent by the City of Prince George during the test.
The PAS is used in emergencies like severe weather, floods or wildfires and all registered contacts in the affected area will receive texts, voice calls or emails with public safety notifications and evacuation alerts and orders. The PAS is free for all citizens in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and City of Prince George areas. Citizens enter their name, email address, phone numbers, and identify which zones they wish to receive alerts for. Citizens can choose as many zones that are applicable to them.
Links to sign up for the system are on the home pages of the Regional District and City of Prince George websites.
The PAS is used by the City of Prince George and the Regional District to deliver notifications of
emergency situations and evacuation alerts and orders. This is not the same as Alert Ready which is used by the federal and provincial governments and delivers alerts on large-scale situations through television, radio and LTE-connected and compatible wireless devices.
