On June 12, construction will begin to replace the unsignalized intersection at Foothills Boulevard and 18th Avenue with a single lane roundabout. Construction is expected to be complete by September 2023.
Chris Vliegenthart, transportation services supervisor, stated: “This project will provide future improvements to network capacity, access to adjacent development, and promote intersection road safety.”
During construction, the following closures will take place:
- Foothills Boulevard south of Glen Shee Road
- 18th Avenue west of the soccer fields
- UNBC Connector Trail (Ginter’s Meadow) parking lot
Pedestrian access to the UNBC Connector Trail (Ginter’s Meadow) will be maintained. Trail users are encouraged to use the parking lot at the south end of the trail or at nearby civic facility lots when available.
Transit service will be disrupted until the project is complete. Service will be temporarily suspended for stops along 18th Avenue between Ospika Boulevard and Foothills Boulevard and along Foothills Boulevard between 18th Avenue and 15th Avenue. More information on detours and alternate stops will be available on the BC Transit website and posted at impacted stops.
This $1.6 million project is funded in part through City reserves, the Union of BC Municipalities Community Works Fund, and developer contribution.
All road users are cautioned to follow the instructions of traffic control persons and devices, reduce their speed, and pay attention near work zones.
