Hotel workers at Ramada Plaza Prince George delivered 72-hour strike notice to their employer Monday.
The workers, represented by UNITE HERE Local 40, will be in a strike position this Thursday, June 1, at 11 a.m.. The union and the employer are scheduled to appear in mediation on Wednesday.
Most of the 40 housekeepers, front desk agents, banquet staff and Starbucks baristas earn significantly less than the $21.19 living wage needed to support a family in Prince George, according to the union. Workers want the employer to close the pay gap so that they can keep up with the rising cost of living in the area.
The hotel is operated by Days Hospitality Limited, based in Etobicoke, ON.
