Police catch violent offender in possession of firearm

On Sunday, May 21, 2023, just after 8:00 p.m., a police officer with Prince George RCMP was on routine patrol in the area of 20th Avenue and Tamarack Street when he recognized a suspect who the police officer knew had a warrant out for his arrest.

The police officer approached the suspect, identified as Brandhon Leslie Dargatz, to execute the warrant when the suspect fled from the police officer on foot. The police officer ran after the suspect and caught up with him moments later. Brandhon Dargatz was arrested without further incident.

When police officers were conducting a search of Mr. Dargatz’s belongings for police officer safety, they located a loaded firearm in his backpack. At the time of his arrest, Mr. Dargatz was under a lifetime firearms prohibition, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The B.C. Prosecution Service approved the following charges in this matter;

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession was unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Resisting arrest

Mr. Dargatz will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

This file remains under investigation.
