When professional wrestling returns to Prince George on May 12 and 13, they’re not only bringing some of the top wrestlers from Canada to town, but also hoping to discover Canada’s next rising star.
The league has scheduled an open tryout to take place on Saturday, May 13th and it’s open to both men and women to participate.
“Many of us that got into professional wrestling started as fans,” said Prince George wrestler Stuart Brown (aka The Mauler). “We just needed to find the opportunity to connect with a trainer to open the door for us. We hope that this tryout opportunity serves as the introduction of a future wrestling star.”
The two-hour in-ring session will be led by the current Primetime Wrestling heavyweight champion, Vance Nevada. Nevada is a 30-year veteran of the sport with a track record across Canada and the United States. As a trainer, he is credited with training and/or mentoring the early careers of Kenny Omega (AEW), the Bollywood Boyz (WWE) and more. It is estimated that Nevada has influenced more than three dozen wrestlers during their formative years. He has an eye for talent, and a respected training style.
“It’s true, this sport is not for everyone,” says Nevada. “But the game has changed a lot and it’s not just about who’s the biggest and strongest. There are now a lot of opportunities for the faster, more dynamic wrestlers. And we’ve also seen a tremendous expansion of opportunities for women in the sport as well over the past decade.”
Those who successfully pass the tryout will be considered for admission in the upcoming Primetime Wrestling Academy which is slated to launch later this year. To register for a spot in the open tryout, contact Stuart Brown at mauler@primetimecanada.ca
