Twenty-one tickets handed out in two hours

On Wednesday the Prince George RCMP’s Municipal Traffic Services Unit continued its high-risk driving enforcement with another speed watch campaign. This time police officers were stationed along Ospika Boulevard during the lunch-hour rush.

“In the two hours that police officers were conducting their speed watch, they issued 21 violation tickets to drivers going 25 km/h or more over the posted speed limit of 50 km/h,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP, in a news release. “Our message to drivers is that the roadway is a shared space and we need to make sure we’re keeping the safety of everyone in mind. One way to do this is to make sure you’re staying within the posted speed limit.”

One driver was observed travelling 59km/h over the posted speed limit, which resulted in a $368 violation ticket for excessive speed and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

Mounties are encouraging everyone to stay safe on the roadways this summer.
