Prince George RCMP’s Municipal Traffic Services Unit began its summer speed enforcement on Monday, targeting speeding drivers along Foothills Boulevard near Cascade Avenue.
“During the three hours that police officers were conducting their speed watch they issued 23 violation tickets to drivers who were traveling at 25km/h or more over the posted speed limit. Police officers focused on this particular stretch of Foothills Boulevard as City of Prince George work crews were in the area conducting sidewalk and intersection improvements,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
Prince George RCMP wants to remind drivers to slow down and move over when approaching roadside workers and vehicles stopped on our roads. The slow down and move over legislation includes not only emergency vehicles, but maintenance workers, utility workers, land surveyors, animal control workers and garbage collectors.
Motorists must slow their speed to:
- 70km/h when in an 80km/h or over zone
- 40km/h when in an under 80km/h zone
If travelling on a multi-lane road, when safe to do so drivers must also move into another lane to pass when passing stopped vehicles with a flashing light. Failing to adjust your speed or move over may result in a $173 traffic violation ticket and three points on your driver’s licence.
Speed enforcement will continue throughout the city during the spring and summer months.
