The Regional District Fraser-Fort George partnered with the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako and the BC Cattleman’s Association to study the economic impact of veterinary medicine in B.C.
The study found that the economic impacts generated by veterinarians in B.C. are $2.4 billion in total output, including direct output of $1.5 billion and indirect and induced output of $0.9 billion. It also determined that veterinarians play a critical role in ensuring the sustainability and viability of the livestock sector.
They provide medical and surgical services to livestock as well as consultation on disease prevention and treatment. They also support food security and safety through veterinary oversight of agricultural operations.
