The Prince George Cougars are in the driver’s seat coming home after a second straight 6-2 win over the Tri-City Americans Friday in Kennewick.
Friday night’s victory gives the Cougars a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven first-round series as the action returns to Prince George Sunday at CN Centre. Game 7, if necessary, will be on Tuesday, also at CN Centre.
A strong third period propelled the Cougars to the win with four unanswered goals in the final frame.
The Americans started the scoring in the first on a goal by Jake Sloan.
Zac Funk and Bauer Dumanski responded for the Cougars in the second to take the lead. The Americans’ Reese Belton tied the game at two late in the second.
The third, however, was all Cougars as Caden Brown gave the Cougars a 3-2 lead followed by an insurance goal from Cole Dubinsky. Funk got his second of the game into an empty net and Dumanski notched his second of the game with just under two minutes remaining.
Ty Young made 26 saves in the Cougars net while Tomas Suchanek made 28 saves between the pipes for the Americans.
