The Prince George Public Library and the Community Arts Council teamed up to host a well attended reception on Saturday, April 1 to celebrate local teen artists.

The annual Teen Art Showcase distributed five awards at Saturday’s reception held at the Bob Harkins Branch, downtown. The winners of the 2023 Awards were:

  • Best Social Commentary – Kitty Swanson’s Reduce, Reuse, Returtle
  • Best Use of Material – Ava Matthews’ Northern Flicker
  • Most Original – Roxie Aronson’s Tea in the Woods
  • Best Overall – Connor Pryschlak’s Reality
  • People’s Choice – Connor Pryschlak’s Reality

“On behalf of the Prince George & District Community Arts Council and Studio 2880 we are thrilled with the talent demonstrated by so many of our local youth,” said Lisa Redpath, the Prince George & District Community Arts Council’s Program Manager. “In its 7th year, the Teen Art Showcase continues to spotlight the creativity, dedication and hard work achieved by these amazing local artisans, as well as the community that supports them. Thank you to our partners, The City of Prince George, The Prince George Public Library and all our funding agencies.”

“We were thrilled with the 33 submissions we received this year,” said Jen Rubadeau, the Prince George Public Library’s Manager of Communications and Engagement. “We were especially impressed with the calibre and variety of mediums submitted. We had more than 13,500 people come through the doors at the downtown branch in March, and it is such a pleasure to see take time to appreciate and interact with the display. There were so many positive comments about the art submissions and almost 400 ballots were cast for the People’s Choice Award. All the teens who participated should be extremely proud of their work.”

The goal of the Prince George Public Library and the Community Arts Council’s partnership is to encourage young and emerging artists to showcase their art, connect with peers, and provide learning and engagement opportunities through workshops and events such as the Teen Art Showcase.
