
The Western Hockey League has announced today that forward Chase Wheatcroft and defenceman Ethan Samson were named BC Division first team all-stars.
Wheatcroft, 20, has put together the second best season in Cougars history, owning 107 points in 68 games (47G-60A). The Calgary, AB product paced the entire Canadian Hockey League in power-play goals with 22, which also set a team record for most power-play goals in a single season. The Cougar forward led his team in numerous categories which includes goals (47), power-play goals (22), game winning goals (7), overtime goals (3), and shots on goal (271). Wheatcroft capped off his tremendous season, signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars of the NHL.
Samson, 19, finished with the best WHL season of his career. The Delta, BC native finished with 60 points in 60 games (18G-42A). Samson finished the campaign with 10 power-play goals, which is 3rd in the WHL among all defencemen. Earlier this season, the 2021 6th round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers signed his entry level contract with the NHL club. In his WHL career, the Cougar captain has 19 power-play goals which is tied for first all time in Cougars history among defensemen.
