The Prince George Cougars got back in the win column with a 5-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday at the CN Centre.
Hudson Thornton scored twice, while Cole Dubinsky, Viliam Kmec, and Ethan Samson also added goals. Ty Young earned his 13th win of the season, making 20 saves.
Hudson Thornton got the scoring started 3:43 into the game on the power-play with Chase Wheatcroft and Ethan Samson collecting assists. Just over 10 minutes later, when PG was short-handed, Cole Dubinsky delivered a goal of the year candidate dangling through multiple Chiefs and scoring on Cooper Michaluk to make it 2-0 Cougars. Just under a minute later on the same power-play, Cade Hayes cut into the Cougars lead at 14:05. PG was up 2-1 after the opening 20 minutes.
In the second, Carter Streek found the equalizer at 4:15 on a 2 on 1 to make it 2-2. The Cougars responded with two late second period markers with Hudson Thornton and Viliam Kmec both finding the back of the net 59 seconds apart. The Cougars took a 4-2 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes.
In the third, the Cougars had more great chances, however, netminder Cooper Michaluk was rock solid for the Chiefs, keeping them in the game. Spokane went to a late power-play, but Ethan Samson was able to deposit the puck the length of the ice and into the empty net to solidly a victory for the Prince George Cougars.
