Wheatcroft leads Cougars to third straight victory

LANGLEY – The Prince George Cougars collected their third win in a row with a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory over the Vancouver Giants, Friday at the Langley Events Centre.

Chase Wheatcroft led the way offensively for Prince George with three points, including the overtime winner. Viliam Kmec, Cole Dubinsky, and Ondrej Becher also added goals in the win.

The first period saw both clubs trade power-play goals with Skyler Bruce scoring for Vancouver and Chase Wheatcroft for the Cougars. The game was tied at one through 20 minutes.

In the second, the Giants added to the lead, scoring twice in 35 seconds to make it 3-1. Ty Thorpe and Jaden Lipinski had the markers, and it forced the Cougars to take their 30 second timeout. After the timeout, the Cougars battled back. PG got three goals in under three minutes from Viliam Kmec, Ondej Becher, and Cole Dubinsky. Those three goals put the Cougars ahead 4-3 after 40 minutes.

In the third, the Giants were able to find the equalizer with Skyler Bruce scoring his second of the night. In the final minutes, Samuel Honzek hit the post and Chase Wheatcroft misfired on a one-timer, therefore, the game remained tied after 60 minutes.

In the extra frame, Chase Wheatcroft delivered the game winner off a pass from Jaxsen Wiebe at the 3:09 mark to give the Cougars a come from behind overtime win over the Vancouver Giants
