
BURNS LAKE – In a comeback effort, the Prince George Spruce Kings ended up defeating the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 4-3 on Sunday afternoon to split the weekend series, bringing an end to the BCHL Road Show in Burns Lake.
The Spruce Kings now reclaim their spot ahead of the Silverbacks in the Interior Division standings with the win, earning two points and pushing themselves ahead of both the Silverbacks and the West Kelowna Warriors. Prince George now ranks third in the division. Salmon Arm moved ahead in the standings with their season series record against Prince George after Saturday’s 2-1 overtime final.
Prince George now posts a record of 23-16-4-1 while the Silverbacks’ record goes to 22-16-4-1.
After a scoreless opening period, Prince George found the back of the net first as Ben LeFranc put the puck through traffic from the right point. The goal marked the PG defenceman’s third of the season.
Down 1-0, the Silverbacks responded by scoring a trio of goals before the end of the middle frame. Jules Boilard, Isaac Lambert, and Nathan Mackie all scored for the Silverbacks as they took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
In the third, the comeback began for Prince George. First, Linden Makow scored on the powerplay for his 14th goal of the season. Kai Greaves and Kilian McGregor-Bennett assisted the play. Then Jack Stockfish came up with a strong effort, pulling the toe-drag on a pair of Silverbacks defenders before letting a shot go near-side corner on Tovell to tie the game up at 3-3.
The game-winner came off the blade of Greaves after Linden Makow set him up just inside the blue-line for a shot down the lane. The goal marked his fifth of the season.
Jordan Fairlie earned his 20th win of the season after stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced from the Silverbacks.
Up next for Prince George, they’ll host the Powell River Kings at Kopar Memorial Arena on Friday, February 24. The game will get underway at approximately 7 p.m.
