The Prince George Community Foundation and Interior Savings have announced the recipients of the Spruce Credit Union Legacy Fund. A total of $241,250 will be distributed to three worthy, local community initiatives. All of which will have a long-lasting positive impact in Prince George.
This grant program, stewarded by the foundation, was established through the successful merger of Interior Savings and Spruce Credit Union as a way to recognize and extend the impact Spruce Credit Union and its founding members have had in enriching the community of Prince George.
The grant recipients are:
- Elder Citizens Recreation Association – $11,250 – Kitchen Renew
- Prince George Agricultural & Historical Association – $80,000 – BCNE Outdoor Ag Arena Revival
- Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation – $150,000 – Portable Cardiac Care machine – Cardiac Care Campaign
The foundation and Interior Savings are honoured to support these three worthy organizations and their efforts to build community resilience and impact generations to come.
“The Foundation is honored to award these three recipients funding for the important work that they are doing in our community,” said Catherine Pennington, President of the Prince George Community Foundation. “Thank you again to Interior Savings and Spruce Credit Union for placing your trust in the Foundation to manage this grant cycle and these funds. We are awarding a large amount in grants today, but by nature of an endowment fund, this Spruce Credit Union Legacy Fund will continue to support the community forever.”
“When we announced this fund, we issued a call for big ideas that could create lasting positive impact,” said Brian Harris, CEO of Interior Savings. “Prince George resoundingly answered that call. The compassion in this community and the calibre of applications was inspiring. Together, these projects will create opportunity, build community connection, and save lives.”
Harris also extended thanks to all those who applied, the Foundation, the local advisory committee, and the founding members of Spruce Credit who made this Fund possible.
According to the foundation, this announcement is just the beginning of the impact these credit unions will have in Prince George. Also established through the merger was a $500,000 endowment fund which will generate community investment grants every year, forever. The foundation will release more details in the fall of 2023.
