Prince George RCMP have arrested a man near an elementary school Thursday who was apparently carrying a long knife.
On Thursday, just before 2:30 p.m., Prince George RCMP received a report of a man walking on Range Road near Wiebe Road who had a long knife in his hand. A witness stated he heard the man uttering threats to harm two people. Police officers flooded the area as the suspect was close to an elementary school and it was near the end of the school day.
Police say they located and arrested the suspect within 12 minutes of receiving the complaint. The man, who is known to police, was found to be breaching a release order at the time of his arrest.
“Multiple units responded to this complaint, including frontline police officers, a police service dog team and the emergency response team, as the safety of those in the area and those the man threatened to harm, was at risk,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
The suspect will remain in custody until he can attend court. The file remains under investigation.
