LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Prince George Cougars dropped their first game of the seven-game road trip by a 4-3 score in overtime to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Friday at the Enmax Centre.

Ethan Samson, Chase Wheatcroft, and Riley Heidt had the Cougars’ goals, while Ty Young made 27 saves in the setback.

Ethan Samson started the scoring for Prince George from a shot from the right point, just over six minutes in, to make it 1-0. The Hurricanes answered with one of their own when PG product Miguel Marques tapped one through Ty Young to make it 1-1. The game remained tied after the first period.

In the second, Lethbridge jumped out to their first lead of the night with Tristan Zandee finding the back of the net to make it 2-1 Lethbridge. Just over four minutes later, on a Cougars power-play, Chase Wheatcroft ripped one from the slot by goaltender Bryan Thomson to tie the game at two. The Hurricanes didn’t go away, however, as Anton Astashevich got the Hurricanes back in the lead just over a minute after the Wheatcroft goal. The Hurricanes took a 3-2 lead to the dressing room after 40 minutes.

The Cougars put together a terrific third period and got rewarded. Zac Funk and Koehn Ziemmer set up Riley Heidt on an odd man rush and Heidt hammered it by Thomson to tie the game and force overtime

In OT, Tyson Laventure was able to shovel home the overtime winner as the net came dislodged. The goal went under review, however, it remained a good goal, and the Hurricanes were victorious in the extra frame.
