KELOWNA – The Prince George Cougars collected back-to-back wins and their third win in four nights with a 3-0 win over the Kelowna Rockets, Tuesday at Prospera Place.
Ty Young posted his first WHL shutout, making 30 saves on 30 Kelowna shots. Cole Dubinsky, Blake Eastman, and Viliam Kmec provided the Cougars offense in their 17th victory of the season.
The Cougars got the scoring started in the late minutes of the opening period with a highlight reel goal from Cole Dubinsky to make it 1-0.
Just over two minutes later, the Cats found themselves on a four-minute penalty kill and were able to get ashorthanded goal from Blake Eastman. Eastman sizzled a wrist shot past goaltender Talyn Boyko to give the Cougars a 2-0 cushion after 20 minutes.
In the second, the Cougars added to their lead with Viliam Kmec rifling a wrist shot for his second of the season. Ty Young made some big saves for Prince George in the final minutes to keep his group ahead by three after 40 minutes.
The Cougars were able to keep the Rockets offense quiet in the third period and once again got some terrific goaltending from Ty Young to keep the game 3-0. Carlin Dezainde had a short-handed penalty shot but fired it off the post. The Cougars held on for the victory to kick off the 7-game road trip on the right foot.
