Investigation into pedestrian-involved hit-and-run reveals new information

The police investigation into the hit-and-run from December 16, 2022 that injured a woman and killed her unborn child has revealed new information about the make and model of the vehicle investigators are seeking. Police have released video surveillance of the truck.

Analysis of the debris shows that the suspect vehicle involved in the collision is a dark coloured, Dodge Ram 1500. The headlight assembly collected from the scene is from a 2015-2022 model truck, though the part is compatible with any Dodge Ram 1500 as early as the 2009 model.

“Investigators have video surveillance that shows a pickup truck driving southbound, which then comes back northbound past the incident as other vehicles are stopping to render aid to the victim. The truck police are looking for will have significant front-end damage to the passenger-side headlight and possibly to the bumper, as well,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

Police are appealing to the public to report any suspicious or out of character behaviour of anyone that drives one of these trucks. Examples of this could be the driver/owner now parking differently their driveway, using their garage when they typically park outside, or attempting to sell off the vehicle to hide/account for the damage.

“We would also appeal to anyone working in the auto industry who may have had inquiries into replacement lights on a truck like this to call the non-emergency at 250-561-3300,” she said. “This is an active investigation and any tip from the public will be investigated. Important information to include when making a report is the location and license plate of the vehicle, if available. Please quote file number 2022-44491.”

The victim remains in the hospital in serious condition. The investigation is ongoing.
