The Prince George Cougars (11-9-0-0) were led by a six-point performance from Hudson Thornton to help them to a 9-1 triumph over the Victoria Royals on Friday night at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre.
After some big saves in the opening period from Ty Young, the Cougars were able to get a pair of late goals from both Caden Brown and Keaton Dowhaniuk to get PG up a pair after the opening 20 minutes.
In the second, the Cougars exploded for four more goals, which included a pair from Hudson Thornton, along with singles from Chase Wheatcroft and the first of the season from Viliam Kmec. The Royals got on the board in the final minutes from their leading scorer Jake Poole. Prince George took a 6-1 lead to the dressing room after forty minutes.
In the final period, Prince George tacked on to the lead, getting markers from Cole Dubinsky, Hudson Thornton (hat-trick goal), and Keaton Dowhaniuk. The Cougars soared to a 9-1 victory to kick off the season series against the Victoria Royals.
