CHILLIWACK — The Prince George Spruce Kings couldn’t hold on to secure the win Thursday night at the Chilliwack Coliseum as the Surrey Eagles came back to win 4-3 in a shootout and keep their undefeated record intact.

Jake Bongo scored on the opening shot attempt of the shootout for Surrey and stood as the lone tally needed to win the game.

Prince George ended up having to settle for a single point as they wrapped up their time at the BCHL Showcase.

Jordan Fairlie stopped 22 of 25 shots in the loss while winning goalie Michael Sochan stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced in regulation.

In the first period, Luca Primerano opened the scoring with his second of the season at 6:16. The goal was assisted by Ben Lefranc with his sixth helper of the season.

A few minutes later, Adam Mendelson pushed the Spruce Kings lead to 2-0 with his first goal in the BCHL. Kai Greaves earned the assist on the play, springing Mendelson ahead and splitting the defence.

In the second period, Kilian McGregor-Bennett gave Prince George a 3-0 lead with a powerplay goal. The goal marks his second of the season.

Surrey then responded with a pair from Logan Lorenz. The forward scored his fourth and fifth goals back-to-back to bring the Eagles to within one ahead of the second intermission.

In the third period, Bongo knotted things up at 13:04 and forced overtime as Prince George struggled to put the game away.

Despite the loss, Prince George secures a point to push them into third place in the Interior Division.

The Spruce Kings will be back in action Saturday night in Vernon for a visit against the Vipers.

Broadcast for the game will be made available through Hockey TV and will be broadcasted on 99.3 Rewind Radio.
