Both local MPs have been named to new Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre’s shadow cabinet.
Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty was named critic for mental health and suicide prevention while Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer was re-appointed critic for northern affairs and Arctic sovereignty; Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency.
“I am honoured to have been once again appointed shadow minister for Northern Affairs and Arctic sovereignty; Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency,” said Zimmer, in a news release. “Liberal inflation is fuelling a cost-of-living crisis in the North, and I will continue to work hard every day to be a strong advocate for our northern communities. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has also meant that we can no longer take our Arctic sovereignty and security for granted. I will continue to call on Justin Trudeau to take real, concrete action to defend Canada’s Arctic sovereignty and security.
“I also look forward to continuing to travel throughout our North to see and hear first-hand the challenges and opportunities that residents face when it comes to not only economic development, but also being on the frontline to protect Canada’s Arctic sovereignty and security.”
Poilievre appointed 51 members to his shadow cabinet plus 20 associate shadow ministers.
