Potter’s guild secures $4,000 myPG grant

The Prince George Potters’ Guild has been awarded a grant from the City of Prince George  through the myPG Grant Program. The guild will receive $4,000 to assist with the repairs and upgrades to their kilns.

Established in 1976, the guild has a long, rich history of sharing opportunities, ideas and successes. It is completely dependent on the hard work and commitment of its’ members. Learners of all skill levels form a co-operative group that generously volunteer their time and share the responsibilities of running and maintaining the studio facilities. The facility is dedicated to teaching ceramic arts to northern B.C. potters.

“As with many organizations, COVID-19 seriously curtailed the guild’s ability to raise funds through classes, workshops, and memberships,” said Jim Fitzpatrick, President of the Prince George Potters’ Guild.  “Our day-to-day expenses continued and this loss of this revenue severely restrained our ability to repair and replace our aging equipment.”

To return to pre-COVID-19 engagement, the guild needs to refurbish aging kilns to provide new and expanded workshops and learning opportunities to the community.

“This grant will help us immensely, and will allow these kilns to last many, many years,” Fitzpatrick said.   “We would like to gratefully acknowledge the City of Prince George, the staff and board of The Community Arts Council of Prince George & District, and our community who make our organization stronger.”
