Miworth residents make look to taxation to fund community hall

A new Regional District of Fraser-Fort George service is being proposed for Miworth that would provide funding through taxation for the building, operation, and maintenance of the community hall and skating rink. If the Ministry of Municipal Affairs approves, property owners in the service area will have an opportunity to vote on the proposed service through an elector assent process.

Sixties Scoop apology sought

The regional district will be sending a letter to Premier John Horgan asking that the Province of BC issue an apology for its role in the Sixties Scoop. The Sixties Scoop is a series of policies enacted by provincial child welfare authorities starting in the mid-1950s, which saw thousands of Indigenous children taken from their homes and families, placed in foster homes, and eventually adopted out to white families from across Canada and the United States

UBCM resolution for timely wildfire deployment costs

The Regional District will bring forward a resolution to UBCM that calls for the timely payment of provincial wildfire deployment resources. Each summer the province places a call out to local governments for additional resources to assist with wildland urban/interface emergency fire events across British Columbia. The reimbursements for rental of apparatus and firefighter wages for these deployments can be lengthy, putting an undo financial strain on the volunteer firefighters who staff the fire apparatus that go on the deployments.
