Climb for Cancer organizers are urging people to register and start fundraising for the Climb for Cancer in support of the Kordyban Lodge as the event is only two weeks away. The Climb for Cancer is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Kordyban Lodge and helps ensure they have the support they need to continue providing hope and a safe haven for people from Northern BC receiving cancer treatment in Prince George.
“We’ve set a $60,000 fundraising goal for the 7th annual Climb for Cancer, which will greatly assist the Kordyban Lodge in covering its operating expenses for the coming year and supporting people going through what is likely one of the biggest battles of their lives,” said Doug Bell, planning committee chair. “We can’t meet this goal alone and are calling on people to register and start fundraising as time is running out for us to help the Kordyban Lodge.”
On May 29, people will gather at the base of the cutbanks and climb at their own pace, the difficulty of which represents the struggle people who are fighting cancer face daily. As the climb is steep and organizers want this event to be accessible to everyone, fundraisers can choose to ascend the easier trail to the right of the main climb, opt to only participate in the activities at the orchard across from the Northern Lights Estate Winery, or simply make a donation if they cannot attend the day of the climb.
As an added incentive to helping a worthy cause, individuals and teams who are top fundraisers will be entered to win the following prizes:
- The team that raised the most for the Kordyban Lodge will be awarded the Kordyban Cup for one year, a gift prize pack including gift certificates to local businesses, and a huge gift basket from the Northern Lights Estate Winery.
- Individuals who raise $3,000 will be entered into a draw for the “Gold” prize, which will be worth a minimum of $500.
- Individuals who raise $1,500 will be entered into a draw for the “Silver” prize, which will be worth a minimum of $250.
- Individuals who raise $500 will be entered into a draw for the “Bronze” prize, which will be worth a minimum of $100.
To register for the Climb for Cancer as an individual or as part of a team, go to www.climbforcancerpg.ca. and make sure to follow the Facebook and Instagram pages to stay up to date on the event. Once registered, participants can share the link to their personal or team fundraising page to encourage people to donate. They can also raise cash donations which can be handed in on the day of the climb.
The Climb for Cancer will run from noon to 5 p.m. on May 29, with participants climbing the cutbanks or taking part in the activities in the orchard from noon to 3 p.m. Entertainment will include music by Ben Brown, Chris Goodwin and Chris Cahill. Food trucks including Ballers, Veg Head Killer Food, Frozen Paddle and The Open Door Café will be on site along with a number of vendors offering services and goods for purchase. There will also be a kid’s area featuring activities by The Exploration Place and The Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum, along with face painting and a photo booth.
Participants, volunteers, and sponsors including the presenting sponsor of seven years, Carrier Lumber, are integral to ensuring the success of the Climb for Cancer, which is the main annual fundraising event for the Kordyban Lodge.
