The Prince George Cougars have called up 2006-born defenceman Tyson Buczkowski as an affiliate player, the team announced today.
Buczkowski, 16, was the Cougars’ first-round selection, 15th overall, in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft in December. The Saskatoon, SK product just finished his first season with the Saskatoon Blazers in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League. In 42 Regular Season games, Buczkowski tallied eight goals and 24 assists for 32 points, along with 71 penalty minutes. He was the second-highest scoring defencemen on the Blazers.
The 5’11,” 170-pound rearguard was the Captain of Team Saskatchewan at the 2021 WHL Cup and led them to a bronze medal finish. Buczkowski had one goal in five games at that tournament.
The Cougars hit the road for their final two Regular Season games this weekend. Prince George faces the Kamloops Blazers on Friday and the Kelowna Rockets Saturday. The Cougars enter the final week of the WHL Regular Season in eighth place in the Western Conference.
