Hospice Colour Walk set to go in May

The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society is going to ‘Celebrate Life With Colour’ during its fourth annual Colour Walk for the month of May.

Hospice will again challenge participants to walk 100 kilometres during the Month of May, virtually, from their favourite walking destination, and share their daily walks on social media. Participants will be encouraged to participate in unique family fun games such as I Spy and scavenger hunts which will motivate the community to walk and raise pledges for the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society. Additionally, a grand prize will be awarded to the team/individual who raises the most pledges, along with prizes for other challenges.

This year, they are bringing back their original Colour Walk event that started it all in 2019. On Sunday, May 29, organizers invite everyone to join them at the CN Centre parking lot from 10 a.m. to noon to Celebrate Life with Colour. Together with participants, organizers will be walking a designated route in the parking lot while the ‘Colour Sponsor Teams’ will be tossing colour powder as participants walk by. As a community, everyone will be remembering the lives of the loved ones who have passed and celebrating the success of the kilometres walked for the month of May.

Everyone in the community may join by walking, raising pledges, supporting somebody else that is walking, or by sharing the event on social media. Join as a family, as an individual, or as a team. The 100 kilometre goal may be shared and split up among your team as well. The goal is to get outside and have fun and raise funds for the programs and services provided by the Prince George Hospice Society.

The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society will be directing the money raised to its outdoor Rec Room. The Rec Room is where people can gather to be supported in their grief. It is different from traditional grief counselling as the people who attend will build things together or learn new skills such as woodworking or watching the game together.

Registration for the walk is free, and you also have the option to purchase one of the Colour Walk packages to show your support.
